About this piece
⚱️ Shin Yun-bok: Master of Refined Romance Shin Yun-bok Sin Yunbok 신윤복 (pen name Hyewon) was one of the most distinctive painters of Korea's Joseon Dynasty. Renowned for his delicate brushwork and bold subject matter, he captured moments of leisure, romance, music, and dance—often focusing on women and intimate human emotions. His paintings are celebrated for their lyrical mood, refined color palette, and subtle sensuality, offering a unique perspective on 18th–19th century Korean society. ⚱️ Durable Coaster Design This set includes six round coasters, each measuring 4 inches (10.2 cm) in diameter. Made with a durable plastic surface and cork backing, they are firm, stable, and suitable for daily use while protecting surfaces from heat and moisture. ⚱️ Six Iconic Paintings Each coaster features a different painting by Shin Yun-bok. Based on the thumbnail order from top left, the artworks are Dano Pungjeong (Dano Festival Scene), a festive outdoor scene celebrating the Dano holiday, showing women enjoying swings and seasonal rituals—full of movement and joy. Yeonso Dapcheong (Young Lovers on a Spring Outing) depicts youthful figures strolling outdoors, capturing the freshness of spring and the subtle excitement of romance. Juyu Cheonggang (Boating on a Clear River) presents an elegant leisure scene on calm waters, evoking serenity, poetry, and refined pleasure. Cheonggeum Sangnyeon (Playing the Geomungo Together) shows musicians engaged in a string performance, highlighting harmony, intimacy, and cultured companionship. Wolha Jeongin (Lovers Beneath the Moon) captures a quiet, romantic nighttime encounter beneath moonlight, rich with emotional tension and tenderness. Ssanggeom Daemu (Twin Sword Dance) offers a dynamic depiction of a traditional sword dance, combining graceful movement with dramatic energy. ⚱️ Mini Art Displays Though designed as coasters, these pieces can also be enjoyed as mini art displays—mounted on a wall or arranged on a shelf to appreciate the expressive lines and atmospheric beauty of Hyewon's paintings. ⚱️ Cultural Gift and Décor Ideal as a cultural gift, home décor accent, or desk accessory, this set allows Korean art history to be experienced in a tactile, everyday form.
